AZIZAM WINES

NATURAL WINE FROM DARLING GRAPES

Azizam Wines – founded in 2022 by Maryam Hariri, climate-change policymaker turned climate-adaptive winemaker – is a project of the soul. After 4 years of honing in on her craft at Bichi Wines in Baja, Maryam launched her own label to focus on climate-adaptive grapes and uniquely Mexican varietals, such as Mission, Rosa Del Peru and Palomino, sourced from old vines, lost ranches and small-scale, sustainable farms.

Azizam’s energy stems from its authenticity, in vision and practice. Maryam brings together her ancient Persian heritage of winemaking with ancient production methods: hand destemming and fermentation in concrete tinajas and lagars, with only wild yeast and spontaneous fermentation.

WINES

ZAZA 2022

Mexican Lambrusco.

100% Nebbiolo from organic grapevines nestled between pomegranate, fig and apricot trees in a polycultural vineyard. Carbonic maceration and fermentation in concrete tinajas (amphora). Dry, herbaceous, unexpected. Decomposed granite soil in fog-laden coastal Ensenada.

Named in honor my great, great grandmother, a mythical matriarch, town midwife and mayor from Azerbaijan. She was generous, effervescent, and bold.

ZAGROS 2022

Orange Wine.

100 year-old Palomino and Moscatel and young Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. 30 days skin contact in concrete tinajas (amphora). Aromatic, structured and balanced food wine. Mountainous Tecate granite and sandy coastal Valle de Guadalupe soil.

Named in honor of the Zagros Mountains where some of the oldest wine relics in our collective history can be found.
