The 2023 Vintage

“ZAMEEN”

2023

Light red field blend.

100-year-old wildbush field blend of Palomino, Rosa del Peru and Misión from mountainous Tecate (granite soil). 12 days whole-cluster semi-carbonic maceration (skins, seeds and stems) and spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel.

Meaning terroir, earth, and soil in Farsi in honor of the single field of 100 year-old red and white grapes harvested in Tecate.

“ZAZA”

2023

Still red.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Nebbiolo from mountainous Tecate (granite soil). 8 days semi-carbonic maceration (a blend of whole-cluster and destemmed grapes) and spontaneous fermentation in concrete tinajas (amphora) and stainless steel.

Named in honor of Maryam's great grandmother, the matriarch Zaza from Azerbaijan.

“ZAMBOOR”

2023

Skin-contact rosé.

Grenache Blanc and Mission from coastal Valle de Grulla and San Vicente (sandy clay soils). 10 days whole-cluster carbonic maceration (skins, seeds and stems) and spontaneous fermentation in concrete lagar (Chilean-style tanks).

Meaning “bee” in Farsi in honor of those that swarmed us in the amphoras during the making of this juice.

“ZANGAL”

2023

Moscatel pet nat.

100% Moscatel from Valle de Grulla (sandy clay soils). 20 days whole-cluster carbonic maceration (skins, seeds, stems) and spontaneous fermentation in concrete tinajas (amphora).

A play on the word “jungle” in Farsi, based on Maryam’s infamous childhood mispronunciation. Refers to the wild vines of this tiny garden vineyard.

Limited production — only 200 bottles!
